Move and Groove

I like to run outside 3 to 5 times a week. Some days the runs can be longer then others (7 to 13 miles). For the most part I like to keep my runs in the 2 to 4 miles mark and here is why…..

The most¬†efficient¬†way to give yourself a really good workout is to remember it is not about how long you workout, but your intensity level. All you need is 25 to 30 mins of heart pumping cardio. There is no need to run or do any cardio for hours at a time. Did you know that your body can actually adjust to the same speed of your workouts? (this means any workout…then it is to easy….then we stop seeing results) I incorporate different speeds when running and I will jump, leap & skip in the middle of a run, if there is not something to leap over I pretend there is. With any plyometric move make sure you land softly on your toes. Some days I stop and do 10 jumping jacks & 10 push ups and proceed to take off running. (give it a try) Just keep mixing it up and confusing your muscles, they will work harder for you if you do. ¬†

The songs on my iPod need to be fast, fun and make me want to run like the wind. Below are some of my favorite songs I like to rock out to while running, I hope they inspire you to lace up your shoes and hit the ground running. I have attached the links for your sampling pleasure.

Obsessed

with Boots Extracts body wash in cocoa butter. Fantastically foamy, no other body wash has ever drenched my skin with such abundant moisture or left my skin so super smooth. Sinfully scented, it is really hard to leave the shower.

The cost $6.99 ~ drugstore.com

A green goodness factor here..Conacado cooperative a purveyor of cocoa to¬†some well-known chocolatiers, Nestl√© & Green & Black’s (yum) has agreed to supply community-traded beans to Boots.¬†Conacado uses earth-friendly manufacturing practices such as¬†solar crop drying¬†& rain-watering methods (just naming a few) making them¬†sustainably¬†sound & leaving you with a clear conscience.

Boy Oh Boy

Can’t get enough of the whole “girls will be boys” look. Inspired by the amazing visual feast that Madewell always provides…me wearing a chambray boyfriend shirt by Passport, scarf H&M, shorts by Earl Jean, Forever black peep toe booties &¬†Hype snake embossed leather bag in aubergine. ¬†

It’s a Muff Kind of Monday

There are some amazing rewards to being a personal trainer, along with the satisfaction you feel watching your clients¬†succeed, you tend to make amazing friendships….then there are the gifts you¬†receive from them (a¬†pleasant¬†and unexpected perk) I was presented with an amazing gift bag and low and behold inside held a¬†plethora¬†of goodies including the above must have for your muff…..(yes I know right…) but truth be told you can find the little packets in my workout bag!¬†

Standard Sunday

My “lazy” version of a Sunday afternoon, seven mile run to Manayunk¬†followed¬†by a beautiful brunch with my baby. Sensational sunny day with perfect cloud cover, Marc Jacobs protected my peepers as Sangria cooled me down. Bumped into a friend, made a new one. ¬†Love my lazy Sundays!

Protein Please

Protein, it is essential for our muscles, skin, cartilage, bones and our blood. Protein fills our bellies and helps to curb our appetite. It boosts our energy levels and stabilizes blood sugar. Studies have proven that protein intake up to 30 percent can help shave off pounds as you tend to take in fewer calories.  Protein helps to rebuild muscles and it assists in recovery after workouts leading to more fat torching muscle tissue.  Now this does not mean you need to take in extra, as protein does not give you strength. The only way to build muscle is to workout.

Some of us just do not get enough protein or may have trouble finding ways to take in the proper amounts needed. It is not like you can carry a turkey breast in your purse or pocket (ick!) Feed your body the protein it needs and craves with protein packed snacks.

  • Low Fat String Cheese – 8 grams protein – 1 Stick
  • Almond or Peanut Butter –¬†6 to 7 grams protein in¬†2 Tbsp (single serve packets)
  • Soy Nuts-Roasted (crunchy) –¬†17 grams protein – 1/4 cup
  • Almonds – 6 grams -1 oz (a small handful)
  • Greek Yogurt –¬†15 grams protein -6 oz.
  • Tuna Fish –¬†11 to 14 grams protein – 2 oz. (tuna in a pouch-brilliant!)

The best sources of protein are fish, meat, dairy & beans, so be sure to incorporate these food sources in your meal plans whenever you can.
